The Group

Molecular Plant Breeding, a research team at ETH Zurich in partnership with Agroscope, provides excellent opportunities to bring basic research innovations into application through plant breeding.

We mainly aim at developing genetic and genomic tools that can assist plant breeding. This is driven by two main factors, i) the recent technical advancements, not only in sequencing and genotyping technologies but also in a variety of disciplines connected to plant breeding such as molecular biology, statistical modelling, bioinformatics and crop phenotyping, and ii) the increasing understanding of crop genetics and genomics and how this knowledge can be exploited to the benefit of plant breeding.
In this research area, we offer Bachelor and Master theses projects to provide students with the opportunity to acquire the necessary hard and soft skills to qualify for a wide range of future professional activities within and outside Switzerland.

We are part of the external page Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center, the World Food System Center and complement the teaching portfolio of ETH Zurich by adding valuable education elements in the form of excursions and courses on Molecular Plant Breeding for Bachelor and Master students in Agricultural Sciences.
